1-800-VOLUNTEER.ORG
As a complimentary system to the 1-800-VOLUNTEER telephone hotline, 1-800-VOLUNTEER.org is an online, community-based volunteer management resource powered by local Volunteer Centers to meet the needs of nonprofit organizations--to promote volunteer opportunities and recruit more volunteers--and volunteers--to easily find and participate in volunteer opportunities and record volunteer service hours.
AMIGOS DE LAS AMERICAS
It "provides leadership development opportunities for young people 16-25; promotes community health in Latin America; and facilitates cross-cultural understanding for the people of the Americas." Amigos de las Americas started more than 35 years ago and is still going strong with thousands of new volunteers being added every year. You will find information on their web site about available volunteer positions, as well as online applications that you can download. This is a good site.
 AMIZADE
Interested in travel to exotic spots with some volunteer work thrown in? This is the spot for you. Started to support volunteer work in the rain forests of Brazil, the site now lists travel and volunteer opportunities to Bolivia, Australia, and the Western United States.
CAMPUS ACCESS
A full service site for Canadians with an interest in colleges and all that it entails. Campus Access has sites for volunteer opportunities and internships in Canada and internationally.

CAMPUS OUTREACH OPPORTUNITY LEAGUE
The name of the site is COOL, Campus Outreach Opportunity League, and it was created in 1984. It is a non-profit organization committed to the "education and empowerment of college students to strengthen our nation through community service." At the web site, you can find "volunteer opportunities." near your college. The site offers much more than this, including COOL cities, COOL meetings, conferences, tools, memberships, etc. So, for college students who like to volunteer, the COOL site provides opportunities to be part of the community near their college.
CROSS-CULTURAL SOLUTIONS
A non-profit organization that allows volunteers to make a meaningful contribution to the community by working side-by-side with local people, while gaining a new perspective and insight into the culture and themselves. The volunteer work is with carefully selected Partner Programs, all of which are dynamic and inspiring community-led initiatives. These include orphanages and childcare centers, schools, health clinics and hospitals, homes for the elderly, centers for people with disabilities, and other community organizations. Volunteers enjoy the flexibility of choosing from 10 countries, start dates year-round and programs from 1-12 weeks long. CCS offers international volunteer programs in Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Peru, Russia, Tanzania, and Thailand.
DISASTER NEWS NETWORK
This site is so helpful for those of us who want either to volunteer in person or help others in disasters. Disaster News Network (DNN) is a news service that reports on stories of disasters and suggests appropriate ways the public can respond to help survivors. Depending on the level of commitment, each individual can find some way to contribute during a disaster. Whether you want to volunteer locally or globally, this site will lead you in the right direction. It is easy to move around and find what you need.
ELECTRICAL FRONTIER FOUNDATION
The Electronic Frontier Foundation is a donor supported membership organization designed to protect the rights of individuals, groups, and/or businesses when the world of technology and the law collide. They have a stylish Web site that explains the mission and some of their work. They have ample volunteer opportunities for those interested in legal issues related to technology. There are intern opportunities, as well.

FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY
Florida Atlantic University, with multiple campuses in the state, has a campus volunteer center. There are multiple job listings and even an online application form. The cleverest detail is a buzzing mail button where you can send in message to the center. Not hard to miss. There are many, many opportunities for volunteers and some are stipended. Be careful to avoid the home page (yet again one of those university mega sites!!!). Go directly to the listing of volunteer opportunities. We have listed the page for those interested in volunteering around animals. There are lots of other opportunities available, as well.
 GLOBAL VOLUNTEER NETWORK
The Global Volunteer Network is an organisation which places volunteers in community projects worldwide. Their vision is to support the work of local community organizations in developing countries through the placement of international volunteers. They believe that local communities are in the best position to determine their needs, and they provide volunteers to help them achieve their goals. At present, they offer more than a dozen programs worldwide, and the network continues to expand with new programs being researched. Volunteers have the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational, environmental and community aid programs. Examples of the exciting and rewarding activities available to volunteers include teaching English, wildlife rescue, AIDS education, and assisting in an orphanage.
 GOVOLUNTEER
GoVolunteer is for those interested in volunteering in Western British Columbia. The communites served are Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, and more.
 IKO PORAN
Iko Poran is a Brazilian international volunteer organization who's main goal is to make a positive impact on the projects in which programs take place, promoting a wide experience exchange between cultures and strengthening a constant and growing number of non profit organizations in Brazil. It is the ideal travel experience for those who want to go beyond the ordinary. It is aimed at those who are willing to have the satisfaction of sharing, learning and helping in the construction and visualization of a fairer world for all.
IMPACT ONLINE
This is a nonprofit organization site that includes a searchable database for individuals who are looking for volunteer opportunities and there is advice for volunteer managers. It offers online help to volunteer managers, including an area to post volunteer opportunities.
 JOBS MONKEY
A commercial site listing jobs for pay and volunteer jobs in the US. Its specialty is jobs in the outdoors. The founder of the site is a known author of books on finding jobs in the outdoors.
 JOBS UNLIMITED
A site owned and operated by the Guardian Observer newspaper in the UK. It lists almost 100 jobs from London to Staffordshire to Deptford.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY
The "Make A Difference Day," in October is the largest national day of helping others. It is sponsored by USA WEEKEND Magazine, its 560 plus carrier newspapers, and is held in partnership with the Points of Light Foundation. If you are interested in finding projects you could participate in alone or with your friends, family, and/or co-workers, just visit the USAWeekend Web site and click on the Make a Difference "DayTa" Bank. At the "Find a Project Page" you can learn what's happening in your area or anywhere in the United States. There you can search using keywords for projects that interest you, by ZIP codes and even by states.

ONE WORLD VOLUNTEER INSTITUTE
This site is sponsored by a school in Norway, that is 45 minutes from Lillehammer (home of the winter Olympics). Since 1978 this school has placed 1500 students and teachers in seven African countries doing everything from planting trees and vegetables to teaching children. The volunteer commitment involves preparation work in Norway-learning language and customs, the international experience; and a follow-up session at the school. The follow-up session helps participants put their experience into perspective. The Web site is available in English, Dutch, German. It is easy to move around and get the information you need.
OXFORDSHIRE COUNCIL FOR VOLUNTARY ACTION
This volunteer center has loads of listings for different types of volunteer activities: environmental, elderly, disabilities, children and families, animals and so on. The site has clear addresses, phone numbers, and sometimes e-mail to make contact. Some of the volunteer positions carry small stipends.
QUAKER INFORMATION CENTER
If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity with peace in mind, the Quaker Information Center is for you. Their excellent site has a variety of listings of volunteer opportunities for Quakers and Non-Quakers. Volunteer opportunities are listed by type; criminal justice, non-violence, peace, children, or summer camp; and by locations; Cuba, Canada, Mexico. There is even a page on student school break volunteer opportunities.There is much to read through, before the listing of volunteer opportunities. It includes a definition of term's section, which is quite helpful when you are looking for just the right volunteer position for you.
SERVENET
This site is sponsored by Youth Service America. Organizations can list volunteer positions. Surfers can look for volunteer positions by their zip code. It is also possible on this site to register as a volunteer, list your skills, and then potential recruiters can look for you. A must visit if you are looking for a volunteer position.
SERVICELEADER.ORG
Serviceleader.org is an excellent place to begin planning for an online volunteer program. The site has resources on such things as safety in online volunteering programs, establishing a virtual volunteer program, and a guidebook.

US PARK SERVICE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
The U.S. Park Service site is a no nonsense, easy to use location. It provides information on volunteer positions available at U.S. Parks from Alaska, Florida and even Wyoming. The Park Service site has a page with multiple links to information on managing volunteers. It even includes forms used by Park Service staff. A truly all-purpose site.
VOLUNTEERING IN AUSTRALIA
Volunteering In Australia is a spiffy site with lots of resources. There are links to Volunteer Centres throughout the country, a page, Voluntary Work Initiative, that tells how to get engaged as a volunteer, information on the National Conference, and information on the Australian Journal on Volunteering. If you are an Australian or planning a visit this is a good site to visit. It is easy to maneuver around. Some of the connections to the local Volunteer Centres were not as easy to access, however. The organization has only been in existence since 1993 but they already look more professional than many other similar sites.
VOLUNTEER LATIN AMERICA Volunteer Latin America is a small and independent organisation committed to helping protect Latin America’s flora and fauna, its biodiversity, and to offering the most cost effective way to become an environmental volunteer in Mexico, Central and South America. Their long term aim is to continually support organisations in Latin America by providing an information link between hundreds of small environmental projects and thousands of prospective volunteers. The projects endorsed range from helping to protect sea turtles in Mexico, to tracking Andean Bears in Ecuador, to conducting wild dolphin research in Costa Rica, to organic gardening in Honduras, to working with wild cats in Belize, to assisting with the rehabilitation of Black Howler monkeys in Argentina, to rainforest conservation in Brazil, to teaching children about the environment in the Galapagos Archipelago. A multitude of other opportunities exist in a diverse range of species, habitats and locations.
VOLUNTEER MATCH The VolunteerMatch web site offers the quickest and easiest way to sign up for volunteer service online. With nearly 9,000 nonprofit organizations offering more than 20,000 volunteer opportunities through VolunteerMatch, anyone can find a fun and exciting way to get involved. To date, over 160,000 people have logged on to the site to locate volunteer opportunities all across the country.
The VolunteerMatch web site is simple and easy to use. Potential volunteers merely enter their zip code to receive a list of one-time and ongoing volunteer opportunities posted by participating nonprofits. Since VolunteerMatch is produced by ImpactOnline, a nonprofit web application company, the service is free to both volunteers and nonprofits.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY EXCHANGE 
Sponsored by Human Resources and Industry Canada, this site provides individuals and organizations a dandy site to hook into volunteers. The home page allows you to select French or English and Volunteer or Organization. If you are a volunteer you sign in with a password and list information to help organizations that might be looking for volunteers. So far, 21,000 people have signed up. The organizational sign up is much the same as some of the other sites. You provide information so an individual can decide if you have positions or tasks of interest to them. The site is easy to maneuver and eminently Canada, with maple leaf design and flags to let you know where you are.
